Waldkirchen boasts a picturesque location on top of a hill. The town looks back on a long history as important place on the medieval trade route ’Goldener Steig’, literally ‘Golden Path’, a salt trading route from Passau to Prachatice, Czech Republic. Large parts of the city wall, a former fortification to protect the town, are still preserved today.
