When we, Thomas and Edith, started to build our house in 2000, it was very clear for us right from the start that both house and garden need to fit well into the secluded setting right next to the forest. On the one hand beautiful and well-kept, on the other hand connected to the wild natural surroundings. But landscaping a 4,000 m² slope property – not an easy task.
And finally,
wild animals
that were here long before us, feel comfortable and at home around our house – and that should remain unchanged. For instance, the two bats, deer, hares, fire salamanders and all the rest of them. There are areas on the property that are left untouched so that e. g. wildflowers and nettles can grow as food plants for butterflies.
In 2017, we started to convert our lower ground floor into a holiday apartment. In this context, we have taken great care to primarily support local business. For instance, the granite cobbles on the pavement to the holiday apartment come from the same quarries as the granite blocks used to build the church of Waldkirchen, the so-called ‚Cathedral of the Bavarian Forest’.
We’ve adopted a vegetarian lifestyle for a long time. All in all, for more than 55 years now. Edith still remembers very well that it was not easy being a vegetarian in the eighties. Fortunately, we have now moved on and things are different. And this is why we are very pleased to welcome many like-minded people and those who are open to this concept.
